Spaced Out (known in French, as Allô la Terre, ici les Martin) was a Sci-Fi French-Canadian cartoon that was produced and aired on the European Cartoon Network, in 2002. It was co-produced by Alphanim (Now Gaumont Animation) Tooncan, Canal+, Vrak.TV, France 3, Sofica Gimages 2, and animated by Animation Enterprises Hong Kong Ltd. (Now Agogo Studios).[1][2][3]

Plot

This show is centered around a family surnamed the Martins. Consisting of the father George, the mother Monica, their eldest daughter Betty, their youngest Benjamin, George's mother Gran, their pet dog Fax, and their cat Goodgrief. George applies for a job at a company named Krach Industries. By accident, he gets accepted to being the director of a secret orbital station. So, he and his family move to the space station, where they have to live as an experiment started by Krach. They meet other people who have also been sent by Krach to live there, their neighbor who is also a teacher Mrs. Schuman, and her son Bobby Schuman, a Russian cosmonaut who crashed on their space station named Boris Malakoff, and a guy who keeps switching jobs named Guy.

Availability

The show first premiered in 2002 on the UK Cartoon Network feed, and a year later on the rest of the European Cartoon Network channels, reruns were played on the network until 2005.

Since the show last aired, episodes of this show have been very strenuous to find online, particularly in English. The show wasn't promoted very well by Cartoon Network Europe, only airing the show in the mornings and after midnight with the occasional mid-noon slot. Unlike most shows airing on Cartoon Network at the time that ran with either seven- or thirteen-minute episodes, Spaced Out episodes ran for twenty minutes on the network with no commercial breaks between the shows, making it hard for full television recordings to be made and resurfaced online.

The show was released on DVD in France and Italy but only contained a handful of episodes on. The French DVD consists of a single volume with four episodes (#1, #2, #5, and #17), while the Italian DVD has the first nine episodes released in each of three volumes.

On February 12th, 2023, A YouTube user "MIXXPOST" who may have worked at the show's animation studio on the overseas animation has been uploading episodes of the studios' entire animation catalog, including Spaced Out. The first eight episodes were already available in English online. However, because they were from an Italian DVD, some episodes had Italian subtitles for the alien gibberish dialogue, making it lost for English viewers. These new uploads are of much higher quality and are in full English. It's possible that he could have more episodes of the dub on hand that he can upload in the future.
