PetPet Park launched on October 2008 by Neopets and Nickelodeon Kids & Family Virtual Worlds Group. [1] and focused on the Neopets' companions, Petpets. The virtual pet website Neopets has had multiple spinoffs over the years, whether they were site-based minigames, or on various apps. Some of these include The Last Smiley, Neopets Mobile and PetPet Park.

Before it opened in October 2008, it started as a mini-plot in Neopets, where Neopians would go on missions to help agents "make sure any Petpets crossing over to Neopia arrive at Petpet Park safely." [2]

Gameplay

Petpet Park was an isometric MMO, primarily focused on completing quests and character customization. Membership was an additional option for players looking to unlock more features, such as cosmetics and member-only areas.

The game was somewhat similar to Neopets, with players having the ability to customize and feed their virtual pets. There were of 9 species of Petpets to choose from as of 2014, but the game initially started with six pets: the Pinixy, Kassegat, Drym, Oukin, Dipni and Hifflo. The later three additional member-only Petpets were the Puxa, Mumbat, and Bandalu. [3]

Closure

In 2014, Neopets was acquired by the educational franchise JumpStart.[4] An announcement of the game's closure was made on September 9th, 2014, and the game subsequently closed on the 18th.[5] The game is believed to have only 400 players remaining at this close due to neglect and lack of updates since 2022 and players also noted severe lag during the end as neopets itself did not manage its closure, this was done by viacom staff and jumpstart could not even announce in game it was closing or shut down nc mall sales or etc.

No playable versions of the game have surfaced since then, and in May 2017, Neopets stopped paying for the domain; the site's current state is an advertising page unrelated to Neopets.[6]

Restoration Efforts

There are currently no playable versions of this game; however, as of 2022, two groups are currently active in attempting to restore Petpet Park, those being Petpet Park Rebuild (started in 2021) and Petpet Project/Project X (started in 2018).

A reddit user (u/neo_truths) made access to previously lost files available to both groups, ensuring that not all features of the game are totally lost. (i.e. beta content, in-game code, etc.) [7]

the following information was found in the cache:

all six petpet base files in blue, yellow ,red and green . the beta pinixys are bicolored and do not match later art styles. two directories of clothing and superpacks a complete reference petpet for most clothing samples it is noted that technical knowledge is needed to see most of these examples on screen in 2022.

Catsarenice';s map cache[8]

contains static maps of the park from 2014, requires neopets account to view due to hosting location.

counting cluckens

cake calamity

these two games would work if uploaded to flashpoint due to some coding done for neopets which this site has addressed already on loading the

neopets game archive and other park games.

wardrobe wars

this game needs the game space to work and likely is not savable short of a very high understanding of petpet park coding with petpets and clothing.

Openspace maps[11]:

Two maps are known about from this video, one showing the beach area, cemetary and the icons and etc for another area, but the map was not shown.

these are easily viewed using the openspace engine demo and smartfox if the pieces are properly named using this as a guide[12]. and the use of a browser able to load flash in a browser. this[13]unless you have a very old computer, this is likely the choice for this.
