Viewpoint 2064 was a planned sequel to the game Viewpoint and would have been released on the Nintendo 64. Viewpoint 2064 would have been published by Sammy Corporation and would have been released in 1999 or 2000.
Development
After porting the original Viewpoint to the Sega Saturn and PlayStation, Sammy Corporation began work on a sequel to the Viewpoint for the Nintendo 64.[1] Viewpoint 2064 was shown off at Nintendo Space World 1999 and was teased throughout the year 2000, but never made it to the store shelves.[2] No official reason has been given for the cancellation of Viewpoint 2064, but many speculate that it was due to the game coming out late into the Nintendo 64's lifespan.
Gameplay
In September 2015, a prototype of Viewpoint 2064 was listed on eBay for $3000. A YouTuber by the name of Rama Shotton later uploaded seven minutes of gameplay from the prototype.[3] Though the prototype cartridge is Japanese, the game's title screen is in English. The player has the option to set the difficulty of the game from either normal or hard. Four modes are also possible. The player could also play in the classic mode or play from behind the ship. Many are quick to point out that the gameplay of Viewpoint 2064 looks similar to Star Fox 64.
Availability
While the game was cancelled, no ROMs of the game was available online until March 28th, 2020, when an anonymous user dumped the Viewpoint 2064 ROM online and was reviewed by YouTuber Hard4Games. [4] On April 20th, 2020, Romhacking.net user "Zoinkity" released a translation hack for Viewpoint 2064 that translates the prototype in English. [5]
