The Social Security System (SSS) is a state-run, social insurance program in the Philippines to workers in the private, professional and informal sectors. In 1998, the SSS ran a PSA pertaining to accident insurance.

Description

The PSA shows a construction worker asking to his boss if they have Social Security System. The construction worker then takes off his hard hat while the boss is not, who proposes the expansion of the company. The worker asks the boss what will happen to the former; the boss assures to the worker that nothing happens to the latter. Few floors above, another construction worker slips and accidentally lets the sledgehammer go from of his hand. Just as the sledgehammer is about to hit both of them, the screen fades to black.

Then, the male voice-over states "Pag ang batas ay sinuway mo, aabutin [ng] sakit ng ulo (translate, 'if you violate the law, it will give you pain in the head')" followed by a shot of gavel banging (suggesting that the boss was found guilty for the accident) while the onscreen text displays "Failure to comply is punishable by law. Report non-complying employers." The PSA ends with the logo of the SSS with the text "Sa oras ng pangangailangan, SSS ('In times of need, SSS')".

Availability

The PSA was aired in 1998 and said to be aired again in 2004. The PSA was initially available on YouTube but the user who originally uploaded this video was terminated for "multiple third-party claims of copyright infringement" in 2021. On June 11, 2023, Patrick Roque found the PSA and uploaded it on comments section.[1][2] It was aired on RPN-9 and IBC-13.[3]
