My Little Pony: The Crown of Friendship, was a stage show that debuted in China in October 2019 and re-ran in summer of 2021.

Description

Crown of Friendship was a My Little Pony stage play made by Happy Kids in October 2019 for Chinese audiences. Unique to this show is the costumes performers wear, as unlike the full-body mascot costumes most MLP live shows used, these allow for movement of the eyes, mouth, and tail via puppeteering. There are also stage hands and simpler human costumes for ensemble characters like the changelings and the royal guard. It was also mentioned that this stageplay has original songs, none of which have leaked online.

Plot

Unlike most stage shows of the past, Crown of Friendship actually had a unique plot, summarized as follows:

"Princess Twilight Sparkle is tasked by Princess Celestia to throw her very own royal ball in Ponyville. Twilight Sparkle's friends are excited to have the opportunity to help. As they struggle to come up with a theme for the ball, Princess Celestia sends a treasure - the "Tiara of Friendship" and a cryptic message: "You decide how this crown should be used". Twilight Sparkle decides to call the ball "Friendship Fest" and make it an annual event, choosing friendship ambassadors and throwing a ball to celebrate.

The ponies are eager to wear the crown, but strangely, their cutie marks and magic begin to fade. Twilight Sparkle knows she has to find a way to save her friends and Ponyville!

Can Twilight Sparkle help the ponies find their lost cutie marks and magic, and rediscover the power of friendship?"[1]

Availability

The stage show premiered on October 12th, 2019, and was performed in 21 cities, including Shanghai, Zhuhai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Xiamen, Nanjing, Suzhou, Beijing, and Hangzhou. Due to it running twice as well as being a bit more traditional, there are more photos of this show as well as a proper video that's about two minutes long uploaded by a Derpibooru user.[2] However, this clip is quite low quality and doesn't have subtitles.
