Status: Partially Lost

"Johnny/The Grass is Green" is a song by an unknown artist. It is determined to be released in the late 70's, early 80's, although many of its origins are unknown, and the only source of the song is during the outro of episode 1523 of La Domenica Sportvia on May 1st, 1983.

Background

La Domenica Sportiva (Sunday Sports) has been on air since 1954[1], and is still running today on the Italian station RaiPlay. The weekly show is mainly for following soccer/football, but occasionally covers other sports around the world, similar to shows like ABC's Wide World of Sports. The show consists of a host that frequently talks to the viewers at home about the events of the week, as well as bringing in weekly interviews with players, athletes, and coaches.

At the end of each episode, a montage of an event would play out the credits, usually accompanied to a piece of music[2]. While most of the music was instrumentals, the genre the music fits into is usually in pop/dance. For example, at the end of episode 1472[3], the song "First True Love Affair" by Jimmy Ross[4] plays during the credits.

At the end of episode 1523, a montage of "the Formula1 of the sea" is shown, and "Johnny/The Grass is Green" is being played over the montage.

Availability

There is currently no outside information about the origins of "Johnny/The Grass is Green". The title, artist, and release year are yet to be known.

Episode 1523 is not found in the collection of old episodes on RaiPlay's website[5], as with many others from the series.

In the only clip of the missing song, "RaiSport 2" is shown in the top right corner, which was a second sports channel for RaiPlay that ran from May 18th, 2010 to February 5th, 2017, which places the last known appearance of the episode, and therefore, the song, being somewhere between May 2010 and 2012/2013.
