Deux Romains en Gaule (Two Romans in Gaul in French) is an animated/live-action TV special released in 1967 about two legionnaires in the face of a formidable centurion. The film is noteworthy for containing the first on-screen animated depiction of the comic book characters Astérix and Obélix.

Availability

For years, the film was not released in any home video format, only receiving intermittent screenings in worldwide cinemas (including a 2007 screening honoring writer René Goscinny's death).

Nowadays, the movie is available through three ways:

  • A limited DVD release as part of a DVD collection by the French cinema magazine Télérama (the DVD is edited by Filomax and contains just the movie itself).
  • It was included as a special feature on the Blu-Ray and Blu-Ray + DVD combo of Astérix & Obélix: Au Service Secret de Sa Majesté (Astérix & Obélix: God Save Britannia), edited by Wild Side Video on February 20th, 2013.
  • On March 20th, 2020, the INA (Institut National de l'Audiovisuel) launched the SVOD platform madelen, and included the movie as part of their service.
