Yume Nikki ( ゆめにっき ) is an exploration game created by KIKIYAMA in 2004 using RPG Maker 2003. The player controls a "hikikomori" (very asocial shut-in person) named Madotsuki and explores her dreams. Through a nexus, the player can enter 12 doors that lead to different worlds. The player may interact with characters and objects to gain effects. The objective of the game is to collect all 24 effects that are scattered throughout the dream world and place the effect eggs in the nexus.
From June 26, 2004 to December 17th, 2005, ten demos of the game were released.[1] These demos are now incredibly difficult to find, and they are sought after by fans of the game. Gameplay footage of some demos can be found on Youtube and NicoNico.
A DVD from a magazine issue called “FreeGameStation! Vol.1″ was said to include either information about version 0.06 or the demo itself. It is not confirmed whether or not the DVD includes the demo. Another magazine called "フリーウェア年鑑2005" did include version 0.04. Twitter user dssorcerer_atu obtained the magazine and confirmed that the demo was real.[2] After he hosted some streams of the gameplay, fans requested him to distribute the demo, to which he declined.[3]
