Toriko: Capture the Barbarian Ivy! (トリコ: バーバリアンアイビーを捕獲せよ! Toriko: Barbarian Ivy wo Hokaku Seyo!) is an animated special that premiered as part of the Jump Super Anime Tour event on October 23rd, 2010.^[1] It is based on the manga series Toriko, by author Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro. The special never received a home release after its original screening and has not resurfaced online.

Known Details

The film features an original story, not present in the original manga series by Shimabukuro nor the subsequent television anime adaptation by Toei Animation. There is no creature in either work by the name of "Barbarian Ivy," suggesting it's an original creation.^[2] Some websites list a runtime of 40 minutes, however, this is unconfirmed.

The only available screenshots and characters sheets come from the Super Jump Anime Tour 2010 Special Information Book, given to anyone who attended the event at Jump Shop locations all over Japan.^[3] No video footage is available.

Studio

It is currently unknown which animation studio produced the special, with the two main suspects being ufotable (the studio in charge of the previous Toriko special from 2009) and Toei Animation (who produced the subsequent television series in 2011).

Evidence in favor of ufotable is the voice cast, which matches their previous adaptation, and since no reason has been stated for the lack of a home release, it can be assumed to be an issue regarding the adaptation rights for Toriko, which ufotable lost once they were transferred to Toei the following year, preventing a home release of the 2010 special.

However, the promotional art and character sheets closely match the designs used in Toei's anime adaptation, as opposed to ufotable's different art style for Toriko. If Toei produced it, there would be no rights issues preventing a wider release, but in any case, the lack of availability for the special remains unclear.
