In a game that set up the 1990 Final clash quite nicely, Friends of Fulham outmatched Doncaster Belles on "home soil" of sorts thanks to acquiring Craven Cottage!)

- 18:14, 28 December 2023 SpaceManiac888 talk contribs created page Scotland 2-3 England (partially found footage of international football match; 1972) (The first ever international women's match in the UK! ...Well, that's what FIFA will tell people, the reality is that British women's football had commenced since 1881, but had been undermined since the 1920s. The English and Scottish FAs damn near came close to killing the sport with their Football League ground bans, with the game marking an important step forward for women's football's recognition. Also, it's amazing how much nonsense the players had to overcome from the media back then.)

Thought I'd quickly conjure up a Christmas-related piece of media, namely the first programme to be televised on Christmas Day of 1936. Aka the first true BBC Christmas show... humble beginnings, but paved the way for a more extravagant future.)

- 14:41, 24 December 2023 SpaceManiac888 talk contribs created page Women's Soccer 1991 (lost footage of English and international football matches; 1991) (Channel 4 continued its extensive coverage (well, for early 1990s Britain) of the women's game in 1991. While England were not competitive enough for the 1991 FIFA Women's World Cup, the Lionesses were still miles ahead of Scotland. Speaking of Lionesses, Millwall stunned Doncaster Belles with a 1-0 win in the WFA Cup Final, in a match that took its physical toll on the players. British Film Institute sadly does not contain any recordings, unlike the 1990 edition.)

One was pulled for personal reasons in 2006, but was mysterious aired on Challenge seven years later. The other episode's cancellation was more controversial based on Deal or No Deal Fansite discussion, with it remaining unaired as of the present day.)
- 17:33, 13 December 2023 SpaceManiac888 talk contribs created page Deal or No Deal (partially found pilots of Channel 4 game show; 2005) (I remember watching Deal or No Deal back from 2009-2010, it was surprisingly compelling even with its simple, luck-based concept. What sold the show for me and others was Noel Edmonds' presentation... he very nearly declined hosting it, though was later convinced of the show's potential. A few pilots are believed to have been filmed, including one featuring Family Fortunes' host Brian Conley.)

- 08:03, 13 December 2023 SpaceManiac888 talk contribs created page Women's Soccer 1990 (partially found footage of English and international football matches; 1990) (Channel 4 saw the potential of televised women's football and expanded its coverage beyond the WFA Cup Final. The later stages were televised, as was England's Euro 1991 qualifying match against Belgium. Interestingly, the BFI holds every tape within its archives. So why only partially found? Match highlights were cut to meet a 50-minute broadcast. Seeing how each game lasted 90 minutes, lots of footage was lost. it may explain why scorer and line-up information for the quarter-finals are lost.)

Some rumours have emerged, but only one photo has been uncovered... let's just say one can find it, but they should make sure not to have eaten beforehand...)

- 14:37, 6 December 2023 SpaceManiac888 talk contribs created page Vadim Sinyavsky's radio and television broadcasts (partially found sports and wartime commentaries of Soviet journalist; 1929-1971) (Took longer than expected, but another of my all-time favourites here. Most Russian sources state Vadim Sinyavsky is being forgotten nowadays, which is a sad state of affairs considering how remarkable this guy's life was. Heck, his Stalingrad broadcasts made him a personal enemy of Joseph Goebbels! Also the father of radio sports commentary in Russia and a pioneer figure in sports television, even if he disliked the medium. He's worthy of recognition... unless your name is Sergey Lapin...)

- 16:42, 29 November 2023 SpaceManiac888 talk contribs created page Turkey vs Soviet Union (lost radio coverage of international football matches; 1935) (Just over a year after writing about one Turkey-Soviet Union match, here's another. Six matches held as part of sporting events aimed to improve Turkish-Soviet relations, the available newspaper reports indicate some ended with tons of controversy. Tensions reached a peak when Alexander Shchelchkov was the referee! The matches were the first overseas to be covered live by Soviet radio, courtesy of Vadim Sinyavsky. Speaking of Sinyavsky, consider this as a prologue for a future article...)

- 16:39, 25 November 2023 SpaceManiac888 talk contribs created page Moscow vs Ukrainian SSR (lost radio coverage of interregional football match; 1929) (So the first Soviet football match to receive live radio coverage has been subject to misinformation for decades. Turns out Ukrainian SSR played Moscow instead of RSFSR... and that Vadim Sinyavsky was not even in the radio industry yet when this broadcast emerged! Conducted in front of the five-year plan delegates, poor documentation meant the match would certainly be forgotten to time were it not for its radio significance. Virtually nothing is known about the second match that aired!)

- 13:13, 24 November 2023 SpaceManiac888 talk contribs created page CDKA Moscow 4-1 Dynamo Minsk (lost footage of Soviet Top League football match; 1949) (While the Dynamo Moscow-CDKA Moscow match was aired live first, it was done on a trial basis. Thus, several Russian sources consider this game as the first "official" broadcast of a football match in Russia. The final score pretty much reflects a title-challenging team vs one near the bottom of the table.)

Good choice considering Dynamo and CDKA were objectively the best teams in the Soviet Top League. This was a fun one to write about; I learnt about the intriguing ritual of exchanging bouquets before matches, something that utterly confused non-Russians! Also, commentator Vadim Sinyavsky's influence on sports radio... now there's a future topic to delve into!)

- 17:12, 21 November 2023 SpaceManiac888 talk contribs created page Aleksandr Razumny's 1933 football film (lost television broadcast of Soviet football match; 1933) (This was an intriguing one. From what I gather, this was the first televised football match, albeit in pre-recorded form. Very little information is known about this broadcast and it has remained obscure outside Russia. Time for some more exposure, I think. The fact the match was filmed instead of merely televised live gives some hope that it may still exist, but somehow, I feel the lack of available information indicates it has long since disappeared.)
