Status: Partially Lost


Smosh is a sketch comedy team (formerly a duo) founded by Anthony Padilla and Ian Hecox in 2002. Originally, Smosh was just an internet forum site made by Anthony and his friends from which it would serve as a hangout for them after their school day ended, but in 2003, the site got a Flash animation section in which users can submit their Flash animations on the website, most of which were made by Anthony, Anthony's friends from school, and some of Anthony's friends from online. Some of those animations were uploaded on Newgrounds and YouTube but most of them were smosh.com exclusive and thus couldn't be able to be viewed outside of the said website. In 2006, the Flash animation section was removed because of a hard drive crash[1] making these shorts unavailable to be watched and would be lost.

In 2023, most of the animation shorts, with the exclusion of two shorts that are still yet to be found, were uploaded/re-uploaded on YouTube.

Availability

After the removal of the Flash animation section, fans of the Smosh community were unaware of these animations' existence until they discovered the Smosh Newgrounds accounts of Anthony and Ian which had the shorts: "Day of Revenge", "Die Smoshing Ep.1", "Wheelchair Boy", "Life's Lessons 1-5", "The Dump", "Sierra Pist", "Elderly Driving Mayhem!" and "Rejected Spoof". Though some of these shorts would be deleted by the Newgrounds Moderation Team, fortunately, all of these shorts would be reuploaded on YouTube years later.

On August 19th, 2008, an Anonymous user uploaded the short, "Die Smoshing", to an obscure pornographic Flash Animation site, Swf-Chan. Though this short was also uploaded on Newgrounds, it would eventually get deleted in 2012 due to its inappropriate content. This upload of the short would later be unnoticed until YouTuber Black Space would find this short and uploaded it on YouTube 12 years later. In addition, they would also find an archive of the smosh.com forums about the production of "Die Smoshing".[2].

On June 7th, 2009, Youtuber UnknownThingzorz uploaded the short "Day of Revenge" to YouTube.

A year later, on September 3rd, 2010, Anthony Padilla would upload a never-before-seen animation on smosh.com that he made in 2002 and he would eventually upload it after 8 years on smosh.com. According to him, he found it on his hard drive but later said that the hard drive, which included the short, crashed, but had able to save the file of the short beforehand. Unfortunately, the short would eventually get deleted, and a reason for why was not given. However in 2023, YouTuber Sindex Stuff would find an archive of Anthony's Long Lost Animation on the file-sharing site, blip.tv, and subsequently, upload it on YouTube.

On December 28th, 2011, YouTuber Hypernova would upload the short, "Life's Lessons 1-5", to YouTube.

In 2020, YouTuber Kebab_Hill would upload the shorts: "Cops" & "Wheelchair Boy" to YouTube.

In 2022, YouTuber JPr Koxeilas/Lost Media Wiki user, Johnpkid37, would find 10 smosh.com-exclusive shorts from an archive of the website[3]. A year later, in 2023, he would also find the .swf file of another short, "Kill Anthony", and eventually shared it on The Lost Media Wiki Discord server.
