In 2000, Mike Judge was commissioned by Fox to create a live-action pilot episode based on the fictional TV show Monsignor Martinez, as seen in Judge's animated series King of the Hill.
Commissioned by Fox in 2000 was a live action pilot episode of ''Monsignor Martinez'', the fictional show as seen in the broadcaster's animated series ''King of the Hill''; it starred Argentinian actor Ivo Cutzarida in the titular role.

The pilot episode (titled "In the Beginning") was produced, but Fox declined it, and as a result, it was never aired. Not much is known about the episode, besides the cast and crew credits, and the fact that it was "very funny and full of social commentary", as actor David Herman once recalled in an interview.
The pilot, titled "In the Beginning" was written by both Mike Judge and Greg Daniels (co-creators of ''King of the Hill'') and Jim Dauterive (who served as executive producer and writer for the aforementioned animation), thought it was ultimately declined by Fox, who opted out of airing it. Not a great deal of information on the episode has ever surfaced, although actor David Herman (who voiced John Smith in the pilot and who is known for voicing a number of characters in ''King of the Hill'') once recalled in an interview that it was both funny and abound with social commentary, but suggested that it was canned due to Fox not wanting "a Catholic priest going around shooting at people."

Some claim to have been sent VHS screener copies back in the early 2000's, but these claims are unverified, and the pilot has never shown up online.
Co-writer Dauterive, when asked about the availability of the short via Twitter, alleged that it had been posted to YouTube at one point, though that it was later removed on copyright claim. Additionally, some people claim to have been sent screener VHS copies of the episode in the early 2000s, although these claims have never been verified and the pilot remains inaccessible.
