The 2022 presidential campaign of Bongbong Marcos began on October 6, 2021, when he filed his candidacy for the 2022 Philippine presidential election under the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas. Bongbong Marcos, a former senator of the Philippines from 2010 to 2016, is the son of former president and dictator Ferdinand Marcos.

Despite losing in the 2016 Philippine vice presidential election and his subsequent electoral protest, Marcos expressed his interest in running again for a national position in 2022. After being nominated by several parties, Marcos officially announced his candidacy on October 5, 2021, and filed his candidacy a day later. Marcos later selected Duterte's daughter and incumbent mayor of Davao City since 2016, Sara Duterte, as his vice presidential running mate. An electoral alliance for their campaign, called the UniTeam Alliance, was formed on November 29, 2021.[1] Their campaign was officially launched on February 8, 2022 at the Philippine Arena.

Description

The Miting de Avanse of Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. and Sara Duterte were held three venues in the Philippines: in Guimbal, Iloilo on May 3, 2022;[2] in Tagum City on May 5, 2022;[3] and in Parañaque on May 7, 2022.[4] The event was extensively covered by SMNI News Channel, a channel owned by the company of founder and pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy, who openly supported Marcos and Duterte.[5] Each of three Miting de Avanse were attended by senatorial candidates such as:[6][7]

  • Herbert Bautista
  • Jinggoy Estrada
  • Larry Gadon
  • Win Gatchalian
  • Gregorio Honasan
  • Loren Legarda
  • Rodante Marcoleta (later withdrawn from the candidacy, but still campaigning for his party-list SAGIP)
  • Robin Padilla
  • Harry Roque
  • Gilbert Teodoro
  • Mark Villar
  • Migz Zubiri

The event usually starts with band performance, then the senatorial candidates would spoke for their respective platform, the vice-presidential candidate, and concludes with presidential candidate.

In Parañaque Miting de Avanse, celebrity figures were also present in the event such as Brod Pete, Andrew E., Ai-Ai delas Alas, Bayani Agbayani, Karla Estrada, etc.

Availability

The live coverage was aired on SMNI News Channel and through their social media platforms such as YouTube and Facebook Live. However, the full copy of Miting de Avanse were lost due to the termination of both of their social platforms. On 7 July 2023, YouTube terminated the channels of SMNI and one of its programs, Laban Kasama ang Bayan (transl. Fight with the People), along with KJC, following a previous ban on Quiboloy's YouTube channel which was terminated on 21 June. Google later stated that their actions were in compliance with existing sanctions by the United States against Quiboloy pursuant to the US Global Magnitsky Act and harmful misinformation regarding red-tagging.[8] On 15 September 2023, the SMNI News Facebook page was deleted, in accordance to Meta's Dangerous Organizations and Individuals Policy.[9]

However, some users were able to record the live coverage partially. Ed Archives by AlbaChannel uploaded a 3-hour copy of the event but the part where Duterte and Marcos giving their speeches was not recorded. Other users manage to record the speeches of Marcos and Duterte partially.[10]
