Gothicmade: Hana no Utame (partially found limited-release anime film; 2012)
Gothicmade: Hana no Utame (also known as simply Gothicmade) is an anime film directed by Mamoru Nagano, originally released on November 1, 2012 in Japanese cinemas.
Production
The film had a rather long and drawn-out production process, with its initial website having appeared online in early 2006. While it was planned to only be 30 minutes long, it was eventually extended into a full 70-minute film.
It was animated by a studio known as Automatic Flowers Studio, that has not worked on anything else, before or after this film's release.
Loss
The film was never announced for any kind of home video release for unknown reasons, and repeatedly appeared in Japanese cinemas for limited amounts of time until early 2016.
One theory about why the film was never released outside of theaters is that Nagano was dissatisfied with the movie due to its long production and receiving lukewarm reviews from critics. In contrast, another theory states that Nagano believed the film could only be experienced in a theater setting due to its 4k animation, and as such has refused any sort of downgraded home video release.
Availability
Outside of trailers and promos, no footage of the film can be found anywhere.
Despite this, an OST CD and an art book for the film are still in print and can be bought in Japan.
