A Daughter of the Gods is a 1916 film starring swimming sensation Annette Kellerman.[1] The film is notable for being one of the first films to have a major actress in a nude scene. The scene, which featured the actress under a waterfall with her long hair covering most of her body, led to mild controversy.
The plot involved a sultan who makes a deal with a witch. The witch promises to bring his daughter back to life after he agrees to kill a beautiful goddess, but ultimately, the man decides to accept the death of his daughter, choosing to spare the goddess.
The BFI reportedly held a few feet of film for a few years, but they somehow misplaced it. It has ultimately faded into obscurity and has yet to emerge in any form.
