Occurring on 6th and 7th October respectively at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, the events would be won by Chevrolet's Gary Laton and Lester Lesneski respectively. However, the races are overshadowed by the fatal crash of Russell Phillips in the first event, which is considered the most gruesome accident in NASCAR history.
