September 16, 2003 saw the release of ''BIONICLE: Mask of Light'', the first of four direct-to-video movies spun off of the Lego BIONICLE toyline. This movie introduced a new member of the heroic Toa Nuva warriors: Takanuva, the Toa of Light. It also marked the first time the franchise's main antagonist, Makuta (later known as Teridax), made a personal appearance in a BIONICLE story. Naturally, Lego started selling toys of both characters around the time of the movie's premiere.
