The Moment of Truth is a 2008 Gameshow where contestants answer 50 questions by a polygraph examiner, probing questionable and unethical truth about the contestants, 21 of the questions are chosen to be answered on set with the contestant’s family or close friends while the 39 questions get more personal and questionable if you could answer it or not.

The first season was nearly pulled due to controversy from a contestant who seemed heartless and careless of what would happened to her husband’s marriage and feelings. The top prize was $500,000 and only one contestant won the prize named Melanie Williams, a contestant who lived a polygamist lifestyle in the polygamist community, experiencing sexual abuse

The Episode

In her appearance of the episode, she admitted truth to not just herself, but to her family and the community. Some of the questions she admitted yes to was

  • her father setting her up on a date with a 73 year old
  • her experience impacted and made her fearful of relationships with men
  • the polygamist community giving alcohol to underaged minors

In season 2, episode 10, the last question she got was if she suspected her father had sexual relations to a minor while he was an adult. Tearfully, she said yes and won the $500,000. The situation is very uncomfortable because her family is unsure how to approach her afterwards and Melanie is reluctant to hug her family.[1]
