On July 21st, 2016, power pop band The All-American Rejects debuted an upcoming single titled "DGAF" live in San Diego, California. The song featured a vast departure from the band's usual style, containing a notably electronic-sounding instrumental and a fiercely explicit chorus. Later that night, frontman Tyson Ritter played the studio version live for an audience. The band announced that the song would be released with a music video sometime later.

As of June 2018, almost two years after the song was debuted live, the studio version and music video have yet to be released to the public. Frontman Tyson Ritter stated in November 2016 that he was "beating my head against the wall patiently waiting for the right treatment" of the music video.[1] In December of that year, Ritter teased the music video excitedly by revealing two stills from a lookbook describing the video's style.[2] Since then, neither he or the other members have mentioned the single. Little is known about why the song or music video has yet to be released publicly.

In Summer 2017, the band released a 2-song EP titled Sweat that did not feature the song, and are reportedly working on a new studio recording. It can be assumed that the music video was left unfinished, and the release of the song itself has been abandoned due to the band moving on to new projects.

On July 16th, 2019, the official channel for The All-American Rejects released DGAF onto their YouTube channel as apart of their "Send Her to Heaven" EP. On September 17th, 2019, the channel released the official music video for the song.
