Shinseiki Robo: U-Barot Tanjō! (新世紀ロボ ユーバロット誕生!, "New Century Robot: Birth of U-Barot!") is an anime short film produced by Toei Animation, completed in February 1988, with a running time of 8 minutes. It was shown at the Yubari Robot Museum, one of the facilities of The History Village of Coal, a theme park formerly located in Yubari, Hokkaido.

Plot

New Century Energy Research Institute in Yubari, Hokkaido, Japan. There, the doctor developed U-Barot, an emissary of world peace that runs on new energy made from the water and coal of Lake Shuparo. The aliens come to Earth to take that energy.

Local siblings Chōta and Yūko are playing in a meadow near Lake Shuparo when they encounter U-Barot, which has emerged from the lake to be activated for testing. At that moment, aliens on a UFO attack U-Barot. The lake is instantly turned into a sea of fire.

Chōta and Yūko are nearly swallowed by a crack in the earth created during the attack, but are rescued by U-Barot, who places them in the cockpit to fight an alien who is trying to steal their built-in manufacturing manual. Another alien was stealing water and coal from Lake Shuparo, so he intercepts it with a beam cutter.

The alien is irresistible and tries to retreat, but U-Barot gives chase. The alien continues to attack while fleeing, but is pursued and U-Barot counterattacks. The alien moves further and further away from the earth, but U-Barot keeps on pursuing it. Realizing that they cannot escape, the aliens fight back, but U-Barot fires beams from both arms and they are annihilated.

Chōta and Yūko celebrate their victory in the cockpit, and the doctor praises U-Barot in the laboratory. U-Barot returns to Earth and has the destroyed parts repaired with restoration beams. After the sun rises, the people of the city also honor U-Barot[1].
