'''''Uncle Gus''''' is the name of two cartoon pilots created by Lincoln Peirce (creator of ''Big Nate'') for Cartoon Network, that aired on Cartoon Network in 2000 and 2001. The first episode, "For the Love of Monkeys", aired as part of the Cartoon Cartoon Fridays Big Pick, where it lost to ''The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy''. Gus made an appearance as a playable character alongside three other Big Pick characters in the online game ''Cartoon Cartoon Summer Resort''.<ref>[http://www.cartoonnetwork.com/games/cc/summerresort/1.html Cartoon Network's website detailing ''Cartoon Cartoon Summer Resort''.] Retrieved 31 May '15</ref> Another episode was released the following year, named "Not So Fast!"

A claim from an anonymous user says that it is on YouTube in Greek, but the claim is unconfirmed and has false properties.

''Uncle Gus'' premiered its first episode, "For the Love of Monkeys," on July 14th, 2000, as part of the ''Cartoon Cartoon Fridays'' special event titled ''The Big Pick''. During the event, which ran from June 9th to August 11th, 2000, Cartoon Network showcased a new cartoon pilot every Friday night on ''CCF'', and viewers were encouraged to go to CartoonNetwork.com to cast their votes for which pilot should become a full series.

Uncle Gus For the Love of Monkeys.png

The title card for the first pilot.

Status: Partially Lost

Uncle Gus is the name of two cartoon pilots created by Lincoln Peirce (creator of Big Nate) for Cartoon Network. The first pilot, titled "For the Love of Monkeys," aired on Cartoon Network in 2000, and a second pilot, "Not So Fast!," aired in 2001.

The character Uncle Gus appears as a playable character alongside three other Big Pick characters in the online Shockwave game Cartoon Cartoon Summer Resort on CartoonNetwork.com.[1]

For the Love of Monkeys

Status: Found

Uncle Gus premiered its first episode, "For the Love of Monkeys," on July 14th, 2000, as part of the Cartoon Cartoon Fridays special event titled The Big Pick. During the event, which ran from June 9th to August 11th, 2000, Cartoon Network showcased a new cartoon pilot every Friday night on CCF, and viewers were encouraged to go to CartoonNetwork.com to cast their votes for which pilot should become a full series.

The June 9th airing also marked the first time that the CCF block would be hosted by a Cartoon Cartoon character, that being Eustace from Courage the Cowardly Dog. Eustace would host for a second time on July 14th, the day that "For the Love of Monkeys" premiered. From August 25th to August 27th, the ten featured pilots re-aired as part of a 53-hour marathon titled Cartoon Cartoon Weekend. The winning pilot was "Meet the Reaper," which would be turned into Grim & Evil and later The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy. The pilot ended up re-airing on December 14th, 2002 as part of The Cartoon Cartoon Show.

A Cartoon Cartoon Fridays promo for the CCF broadcast is available on YouTube along with an undated CCF promo from 2000 featuring Uncle Gus. At some point a Latin Spanish dub of the pilot resurfaced online.

On August 1st, 2023 YouTuber GroverKent uploaded the original Cartoon Cartoon Fridays airing of "For the Love of Monkeys" to their channel.

Not So Fast!

Status: Partially Lost

Another pilot, "Not So Fast!," aired on Cartoon Network's Cartoon Cartoon Fridays block the following year on November 23rd, 2001. That night's block was hosted by Mojo Jojo of The Powerpuff Girls (with Blossom and Courage from Courage the Cowardly Dog as co-hosts). This pilot's Latin Spanish dub also resurfaced online.

On August 8th, 2023 YouTuber BigNatesDad uploaded a minute long clip of the pilot's English version.

Untitled Third Pilot

Status: Existence Unconfirmed

A third Uncle Gus pilot was also produced, according to Peirce in an interview.[2] However, it is unknown if it ever aired on Cartoon Network or where it is now, as there's no other information about it. A claim from an anonymous user states that a Greek dub of the third pilot is available on YouTube, but this has yet to be verified.
