For years, the film sparked rumors amongst UFO enthusiasts (who saw a leaked copy at a party) that it was a recording of an actual extraterrestrial event, although this is simply untrue, with the United States Film Board even going as far as to publicly confirm that the film fake in July 2012 to dispel any possibility that it was real.
