In September of 2011, Thomas & Friends released another direct-to-DVD special known as Day of the Diesels.

However, much like Thomas and the Magic Railroad, the film had suffered some cuts and rewrites, according to fan website Sodor Island's interview with Sam Barlow.

Little is known about the original version, although according to some sources, the film was supposed to be a lot darker than the final version.

Rupert Degas, who voiced Dart and Flynn in the special, was originally supposed to voice Diesel 10. Dialogue was recorded but was dropped by test audiences. His line "The Steamworks is ours now!" still remains in the final cut for unknown reasons.

It is unknown if the original cut of the special still exists.
