M. Shadows, the lead singer of Avenged Sevenfold, stated in an interview with Loudwire that "It starts off just before Jimmy [‘The Rev’ Sullivan] passes away. Then we just tell our story. Our story is obviously one that not every band has. Our story is one of loss, one that we lost our best friend and we went on to put out two consecutive No. 1 records and got to do Download Festival, Mayhem. So it’s basically tracking the whole thing through our own eyes and words, because no one has really heard our side of the story. Other people have just talked about it themselves. We’ve always been pretty private about it. So, now people are going to get to see visually what we went through and see some killer shows, Download Festival, Mexico City, Rock in Rio, Rock on the Range all mixed into one big package.”

Over a year later, the band ran into legal trouble with their record label, Warner Bros., trying to get out of their contract with them. On September 9th, 2016, M. Shadows stated in an interview with Loudwire stated that "You get asked a question a million times of 'You got a DVD?' It starts leaking out that there’s a DVD and you go 'Okay yeah, we have a DVD ... Then when it doesn’t get there, there’s no reason for us to put it out – and the DVD was never quite good enough to come out in our opinion. So, I don’t know what’s happening with it right now. I know it’s still on the cutting floor ... We’re still trying to make tweaks to it, but then there’s also the Warner Bros thing. We’re not with Warner Bros anymore and they own the rights to that footage ... So, I don’t know what’s going to happen with that DVD. The real answer is just that it wasn’t up to par with what we wanted to be releasing."
