Taxi Driver is a 1976 American film directed by Martin Scorsese, written by Paul Schrader, and starring Robert De Niro, Jodie Foster, Cybill Shepherd, Harvey Keitel, Peter Boyle, Leonard Harris, and Albert Brooks. Which was filmed in the decaying and morally bankrupt New York City.

History

Not many people know the backstory of the final shootout scene in Taxi Driver (Where Travis Bickle kills gang members to save Iris Steensma). After the film was complete Columbia Pictures showed the film to some critics to see what rating feels right for the movie, after the screentest they came back with a X rating stating that the reason why they give it a X rating is due to the final shootout scene which they called it graphic. Martin Scorsese was furious about the X rating and demanded to change it to normal R rating, Scorsese had a idea where he could de-saturated the colors so the fake blood looks less prominent. They return the film back to the critics, after the second review they came back with a new R rating.

Original negatives

In a interview with the film’s cinematographer Michael Chapman stated that he regrets everything with the scene, sadly the original negatives that contains the original color blood scene are long since lost or been deteriorated.
