O Direito de Nascer (lost adaptation of a radio play to TV; 1964)
O Direito de Nascer (literally The Right of Being Born) is a brazilian soap opera that aired in TV Tupi and TV Rio. It had 160 30-minutes-long episodes that were exhibited from Monday to Friday, being premiered on December 7th, 1964 and ending on August 30th, 1965.
It was written by Thalma de Oliveira and Teixeira Filho as an adaptation of the cuban radioplay with the same name by Félix Caignet. It was considered the first great classic of brazilian teledramaturgy.[1]
Plot
The plot takes place in Cuba, early 20th century. Maria Helena, daughter of Don Rafael Zomora de Juncal, one of the richest men in Havana, falls in love with Alfredo Martins, whose family is rival of Juncal family, and gets pregnant. Alfredo tries to convince Maria Helena to make an abortion but she refuses. When Albertinho gets born, Dolores takes him out of the city, because his life was menaced by Don Rafael. While Maria Helena goes to a monastery, Dolores educates Albertinho, who becomes a doctor and falls in love with Isabel Cristina.[2]

Status
In spite of being a popular soap opera in the early 60's, today none of the original 1964 version episodes can be found on TV or Internet.
