The Top 20 Pokéthon Countdown was a week-long event held by Kids' WB! from September 6 to September 11, 1999 involving a sweepstakes contest and the Pokémon anime. Viewers would send in letters describing their favorite Pokémon, and during the week, random letters would be drawn and read on the air by Meowth and Professor Oak. An episode would be shown after each of these animated segments. On Saturday, episodes highlighting the top five favorite characters lasted from 8:00-10:30 a.m., and the event concluded with an hour-long block of Pokémon.[1]

Known Promos

  • A promo announcing the event, aired before it started.
  • According to a MySpleen comment, a segment where Meowth and Professor Oak read a letter from a viewer whose favorite Pokémon was Eevee because it looks like a dog. Meowth remarks "Acts like one too. EEVEE, ON THE PAPER!"

Availability

Of all the segments featuring Meowth and Professor Oak, only one is known to have survived: the promo for the event itself, aired before it started. A torrent exist on MySpleen consisting of recordings made during the event, but none of the Meowth and Professor Oak host segments are included as they aired before the theme song..
