It is very unlikely that the series would ever come out on DVD, due to the great number of stock music used in the episodes that would be very expensive to license and also, this series never has been re-aired since April of 1992 when it was last aired on Yamanashi Broadcasting System.<ref>[https://hoshinokoporon.wiki.fc2.com/wiki/%E6%94%BE%E9%80%81%E5%B9%B4%E8%A1%A8 Jiho Eigasha broadcast chronology.] Retrieved 01 Feb '17</ref>

Hoshi no Ko Poron (星の子ポロン, Star Child Poron) is a sci-fi comedy anime produced by Jiho Eigasha and animated by Nihon Douga that aired from April 1st, 1974 to March 21st, 1975 in Japan.[1] 260 episodes were made, at a length of around five minutes each, each having two shorts of at least two minutes long.[2] It is infamous for the show's poor production quality which lead to dozens of video remixes and MADs.

Plot

The titular character, Poron, is an alien child ("star child" as described in the title) who comes to Earth and befriends several animals, almost totally (and naïvely) ignoring humanity. However, the animal kids keep causing trouble in various places by their naughty antics and bad behaviors. Poron secretly unleashes his mysterious power to save and punish them.

Status

Eyewitness accounts (on the Nico Video wiki page) state that the anime used a lot of electronic music, and also comment on the short length of the episodes, some of which seem to have been one to two-minute-long skits bookended by the opening and ending credits.[3]

On January 5th, 2009, two episodes titled "All the Traffic Lights Turned Blue!" and "You Should Not Prank the Brakes" was uploaded on Niconico by user uiui. Later that year, 5 more episodes of Hoshi no Ko Poron were uploaded.

On April 7th, 2011, two more episodes titled "The Naughty Bear" and "The Poisonous Mushroom" were uploaded. On January 22nd, 2016, another two episodes titled "It's an Ice Cream, Run!" and "Bye Bye Banana!" was uploaded on Niconico.

On May 21st, 2016, during live broadcasting with the new discovered episodes "The Carps Waterfall Climb"/"Water Walker", someone by the name morikawa said that he claims to have 70 episodes. The episodes were uploaded every Saturday until August 6th, 2017.[4][5][6] There are only 87 episodes, a total of 174 two minute segments were uploaded.

On May 23rd, 2020, during live broadcasting (幻の超展開アニメ『星の子ポロン』アンコール生放送!!【最終回】) by koichil, it was announced that 9 new episodes discovered by morikawa and starting June 6th, it is currently uploading every month on both nicovideo and YouTube.

It is very unlikely that the series would ever come out on DVD, due to the great number of stock music used in the episodes that would be very expensive to license and also, this series never has been re-aired since April of 1992 when it was last aired on Yamanashi Broadcasting System.[7]
