Status: Partially Found

Hieroglyph is a fantasy action-adventure series that planned to premiere on the Fox channel in 2015. Starring Max Brown, Reece Ritchie, Condola Rashād, and John Rhys-Davies, the show was believed to be the channels answer to HBO's Game of Thrones and was initially ordered as a 13-episode series. Before its series premiere, Fox shut down production and cancelled the series, believing it wasn't going in the direction they wanted. The cancellation resulted in the filmed pilot being unaired and serveral scripts unproduced.

Background

In October 2013, Fox announced that they had ordered a 13-episode straight-to-series episodes for Hieroglyph. The plot of the show centered around the thief Ambrose being released from prison to serve the Pharaoh Shai Kanakht. Produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Chernin Entertainment, the series was created and written by Pacific Rim co-writer Travis Beacham, with Repo Men and future Game of Thrones director Miguel Sapochnik was to direct the pilot.[1]

In March 2014, it was announced that Anna Fricke signed on a two-year contract with 20th Century Fox Television, becoming the showrunner for Hieroglyph.[2] A trailer to the show was shown in May 2014. A month later, it was announced that Fox had cancelled the series. Speculation to its cancellation is believed to be from the mixed reception from executives from the trailer.[3] Entertainment Weekly was also told that the series wasn’t creatively coming together the way executives had hoped. Around the time the show was canned, former programming chief Kevin Reilly, who greenlit the show, had left Fox. EW also mentioned that one episode was filmed, with several scripts for later episodes made.[4]

Availability

As of 2022, the pilot in their entirety have not been shown on television or online. Only the trailer for the show has been released.
