Unlike ''Hoshi no Ko Poron'', which had a strong educational feel, this series is a surreal gag anime.

Gan and Gon would be a pair of oddballs on a worldwide search for treasure. Gan would be an unsightly kind-hearted man of justice who would loved adventure but was a bit scatterbrained. Gon would think about sleep but, when it comes down to it, he would come up with some really crazy ideas (like a genius in disguise).

The pair would go boldly forth, do things like saving an Indian maiden from pursuing bad guys, competing with a group of horsemen, a peace officer and also, the ugly bunch that attacks our sophisticated heroes is no match for their comical power.

While some episodes of Hoshi no Ko Poron were found and uploaded to Internet in full (except for one episode of which the first part is missing), no full copies of Gan to Gon episodes were known to exist. However, a copy of a episode of Himitsu Sentai Gorenger was found in the possession of a user named morikawa confirming that at least one Gan to Gon episode still exists.

During a Niconico stream on December 24, 2016 called "Hoshi no Ko Poron livestream", a episode called Protect the Oasis was revealed. It was later confirmed that something appearing to be the master copy has been bought on Yahoo! Auctions Japan.[1][2]
