Dreaming Machine (partially found production material of cancelled Satoshi Kon anime film; 2010)
"Dreaming Machine" (aka "Yume Miru Kikai") or in some cases "The Dream Machine" is a cancelled anime fantasy-adventure film that would have been Satoshi Kon's fifth film. However, due to his death on August 20, 2010, the film was in production limbo until 2018 when Susumu Hirasawa, whose song "Dreaming Machine" was the main inspiration for the film, said that the film was cancelled due to nobody being able to match Kon's direction and style.
Plot
In an interview with Anime News Network, Kon said that the film would be "a fantasy-adventure targeted at younger audiences". He also said that "There would be no humans in the film: only robots." Claiming it to be a "road movie" for robots.
The film would have been centered around 3 characters:
Ririco: A red female robot who would be the smart leader of the group.
Robin: A tiny yellow robot named
King: A large, blue, and loyal robot.
Other than that, not much about the film's story is known.
Reason of cancellation
Other than the death of Kon himself, another reason has to deal with the lack of finances of the film. Though originally, the intent was to finish the film, despite the lack of finances.
Material
Out of the 1,500 shots, only 600 have been animated. And the only things that are available are a handful of images from the film, concept and production art, and promotional material.
