Actually, Alex Greene (Creator of My Bedbugs) has said in the past that due to a financial crisis, he had sold the rights to the show and franchise as a whole in 2008/09. The new owners (Mike Chirco & Kenn Viselman) decided to make a movie featuring the newly acquired colorful creatures with Alex onboard. However, due to a bunch of executive meddling during the film’s production (i.e. pointless name changes, redesigns, and celebrity cameos,) Alex left production early on.
